Being a part of another moviegoer generation, I, of course, didn’t get to see Alien when it first came out, but I did grow up watching Alien and Aliens (plus the rest in the “series”) over and over again, so I was all hyped about Prometheus. And guess what, it didn’t really disappoint me, it was quite satisfying actually. Prometheus has really stuck with me and I keep on thinking about it and rethinking again. Yes, I had few issues with it and few questions unanswered but it didn’t ruin it for me. Visually Prometheus is amazing (whether you watch it 2D or 3D, I don’t think it makes much difference); the story might seem slow but it’s interesting nevertheless, and let me tell you (well, you knew it anyway) - Michael Fassbender as android David is just gorgeous and one of the reasons why this movie works for me. He totally steals the screen. When he’s on, you don’t notice any other actor but him, it’s almost mesmerizing (or maybe it’s just fangirl talking). Fassbender’s acting equals perfect. So nuanced and subtle, it’s a joy to watch. It’s not a dull entirely robotic machine Fassbender plays. No matter how synthetic, David thinks and he thinks a lot. And aren’t thoughts just a step away from emotions? Fassbender knows how to make his facial expression linger in between and leave you guessing how much of David’s opinion is programmed, how much has developed on its own. Because there’s a pure, childlike curiosity and true joy in David. And under his polite smile we see a glimpse of annoyance, anger, even hurt, whenever someone emphasizes that he’s not real. As if he’s grown a muscle neither he nor his software can control. A glimpse of soul he seems to lack, I’d say (you know - soul = psyche ). If he ever was just that, he’s no longer a machine, he’s a person.I think, David’s an amazing character and Mr Fassbender - an amazing actor (not that I didn’t know it before. ).Sorry for the rant.
